Liberty Gun Safes: What Makes a Good Gun Safe

There are many gun safes sold online and in actual store and most of them are nothing more than a thin metal box. The size of gun safe you will need will highly depend on the contents you’ll be putting in, not just at present but also in future years. Bear in mind that not all gun safes are made equal, there are many gun safes made out of just thin metal boxes without any burglary or fire protection. When choosing a gun safe, it is good considering the metal thickness, locking mechanism, fire rating and the construction. It is important to be mindful of these things because it is easy to break a thin metal gun safe using a large screwdriver and a standard hammer. Thin metal gun safes are just made of 14 to 16 gauge steel, but a quality gun safe must possess an 11 gauge steel, and better 10 to 7 gauge steel.

It is crucial to choose the appropriate door construction thickness wherein the recommended size is at least 1/4 inch of a solid plate steel or a composite equivalent, but for added security, you can look for 3/8 to 1/2 inch steel plate. You also need to search for the Residential Security Container (RSC) ratings when shopping a gun safe, and look for B Rated and tool resistant ratings (U.L. TL-30 and U.L. T.L.-15). Your guns and other high-value items can either be stored in a wall safe of a hidden safe. For concealment, a wall safe is better and it can just be installed in the wall using studs. Many people are more of the aesthetic value of a safe than its fire rating, but this should be one of the priorities when buying a quality safe. In order to survive a home fire or business fire, it is best to purchase a safe with a fire rating of at least an hour because less than that would mean damage to your high-value items. It is best to look for the U.L. rating or a U.S. made certified fire safe for your gun and delicate items like important documents. Do not forget to also look for fire seal on the door of the safe you will be purchasing to keep your guns and other valuables from a fire as well as moisture causing rust and corrosion.

Safe experts do not recommend storage of high-value items like jewelry and large amounts of cash in a cheap fire resistant safe, it is better to choose a burglar and fire safe designed in protecting your valuables from fires and burglar attacks. There are many types of locks you can choose from for your safe such as dial locks, electronic locks, redundant locks, and mechanical locks. Look for a U.L. rated lock that can provide a superior level of protection for your safe. Why People Think Guns Are A Good Idea
